General Background Information;
The Ga-Adangbe were originally two separate groups called Ga & Adangbe. The Adangbes are found in the East and the Ga's are found to the west of the Accra Coast Lands however they are now considered as one ethnic group. The Ga-Adangbe people lives in six different independent towns known as Accra, Osu, Labadi, Teshi, Nungua, and Tema. However most people live mostly in Greater Accra, Eastern Region, also in Togo and Benin, and the Volta Region of the Ghana. Accra is the capital of Ghana and the is most well off town between the Ga people's towns. Ghana is located at the bottom of the Southern coast of Africa by Atlantic Ocean. To the east of Ghana is Togo and to the west is Ivory Coast. The land in Ghana is very sandy yet there are some places with forests surrounding the areas. There are more forests up northern east. There are many rivers that flows through Gnana but there are no natural harbors. (Ghana Guide, n.d.) The Ga people were settled in the plains of the Accra in the thirteenth century. The clothing that the Ga's wear are traditional weaving that are worn on special occasions. Kente cloth used to be only worn on happy occasions but today kente clothing are worn for almost every occasion weddings, funerals, and religious worship. They would make beads and wear them as accessories. The women made accessories by hand and out of wood, beads, and gold. (Art and Crafts, 2002)
